North African set finished!
After I finished all the commissioned sets which took about the whole last month or so, I got back to working on the North African set and I'm happy to say it is finished and looks nice.
When it is setup on the board it looks pretty sweet.
All finished and lined up for display
This set I based off some photos of an old 18th century (I think it was) North African set.
It was probably used to play either Chess or Shatranj. I know some places in Africa still played with the Shatranj rules up into at least the early 19th possibly 20th century.
In Ethiopia Senterej (Shatranj with a few different rules) was played in the royal courts into the 1900s.
This style is in the strain of Muslim influenced sets where all the pieces are abstract, even the knights.
It has a floral theme in which all the pieces look like flower buds.
