Aleut Chess

Aleut chess is a traditional game of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.

From what I have learned it is no longer played, but was around as late as 1990.  Now it has been totally replaced with modern chess.

It was brought to the islands from Russia as early as the 1700's.  It was recorded that in 1790 most men played chess on the islands.

The game used the old movement of the queen and most likely the bishop.  It also had a tabiyat style opening "turn" in which the players would arrange their pieces in a fully formed opening position.  The game would then be played as normal.

I have gathered more information, but am putting it together at the moment.  I will try to make a rules document, hopefully when I can get my hands on a complete set of rules.  For now I have a general set of rules, but it has some gaps in it.
