หมากรุก Makruk

- Makruk is a traditional game of Thailand.  It is the same game as Ouk Chatrang with the exception of two special opening moves found in Ouk (see the page for Ouk Chatrang).

- It is still very popular in Thailand and can be seen played on the streets and parks.

- This game (or a similar extinct one) is probably the game that led to Shogi.

- Again finding literature for this game in English is difficult, but there is one book called "Thai Chess & Cambodian Chess (Makruk & Ouk Chatrang)" by Gary Gifford.

- There is a site (all in Thai) dedicated to the game:

http://makrukthai.blogspot.jp/

You can translate the page, although it is still hard to figure out.  looks like to get full access you need to pay and make an account. He does have a number of videos on youtube and openings and such on the site.

- Personally, I enjoy this member of the Chaturanga family and play it whenever I have a chance.

<- My personal set direct from Thailand.  I made the board, though.  However, the board is in the traditional Makruk style.

Rule Booklet put together by me.

Almost the images/photos on the site were created by Chris Bogert.

(with the exception of a few patterns and pieces in images and gallery section.)

If there is anything on the site you created, and would like removed let me know.

Feel free to use my images, but please ask first.  Thank you.
