Chaturanga Family

Batak Catur is a variant of Main Chator, and is still played but more as a variant of modern Chess now.  

It can be played either way easily enough, although nowadays I don't think anyone uses to old move of the elephant and minister.  I also think a few rules were added with European influence like the two-step pawn move and en passant like rules.
