和将棋 Wa Shogi

Wa Shogi was developed in the late 1600's and versions of it can be seen in several documents from that time.  It is unclear is drops were used in the game, but modern rules for the game include drops.

Another interesting point of the game is the asymmetrical layout of the pieces.  Besides the "sparrow pawns" all the other pieces are different, but similar.   The object of the game is the same as shogi and besides the different pieces it plays with the same general rules as most shogi variants do.
