中将棋 Chu Shogi
Chu Shogi is an older version of Shogi that was most popular around the 1500's in the courts of Japan. This exceptional version of shogi is still played today (although its player based is small nowadays). However coming across sets is very difficult. I can make sets for anyone interested. Some people think this is the best of the Chaturanga family.
<- This image shows the 12x12 board with the promoted pieces at the top.
This game also has one of the most interesting pieces in all of the Chaturanga family, the Magical Lion (Shishi 獅子). It has slightly complex movement and capture rules, but really makes Chu Shogi stand out.
The image below is a set I made.
Note: There are a few errors I will have update in the next version of the rulebook.
1. Promoted Kirin have the same capture protections as a regular lion.
2. Promotion rule - a piece may only promote when entering the promotion zone or capturing within the promotion zone.
3. The bare king winning condition is controversial, so think of it as an optional rule.
