Ancient Style Main Chator set

SOLD

This is one of my earlier lathed sets.  I based it on one of the oldest sets to be found in Malaysia. From the pieces in that collection there were two forms of knight.  One being the more widely used horse figure and the other an early okir form used more frequently in the Malay archipelago.  This okir form knight is especially seen in the Moro sets as a more ornate piece with scroll work.

The other pieces are more reminiscent of the abstract muslim style pieces probably brought over from India.  The rooks, however, are what seem to be abstracted boat shapes. I suppose they could be chariot shapes, but the rook piece was also commonly a boat in many countries.
